Corpus Christi—it’s a thriving port city with almost 500,00 residents who call it home. Named by its’ founder Alonso Álvarez de Pineda in 1519, the name literally translates to “Body of Christ.” Here, you will find cowboys and surfers walking side-by-side down the street. Corpus Christi shares a border with Mexico and is notable for many things—Texas A&M, the USS Lexington, windsurfing, the hometown of Selena and delicious cuisine including Mexican and barbecue.

Nueces County State Courts

(956) 318-2405Note: The state appeals court is located in both Corpus Christi and Edinburg. The Court has jurisdiction over criminal and civil appeals from cases originating in the following counties: Aransas, Bee, Calhoun, Cameron, De Witt, Goliad, Gonzales, Hidalgo, Jackson, Kenedy, Kleberg, Lavaca, Live Oak, Matagorda, Nueces, Refugio, San Patricio, Victoria, Wharton and Willacy. If you are requesting an appeal, call the courthouse directly or seek legal assistance.

Nueces County Justice of the Peace Courts
These are the lower courts in Nueces County. There are five different precincts within the county. These courts handle traffic, criminal cases punishable by a fine only, bad check cases, small claims civil cases, eviction, and truancy. The Justice of the Peace also performs civil marriages.
Federal Courts

U.S District and Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas

This court handles all federal cases for Aransas, Bee, Brooks, Duval, Jim Wells, Kenedy, Kleberg, Live Oak, Nueces and San Patricio counties. If you have a criminal matter you may contact the Federal Prosecutor or the Federal Public Defender. This location also houses the U.S. Bankruptcy Court.
